Super Eagles forward, Simy Nwankwo has continued to make a silent case for himself ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations as he scored his 13th league goal of the campaign to propel FC Crotone to a 1-0 win over Benevento, AOIFootball.com reports.
Playing in his penultimate last home game for the Serie B survivals, the Nigerian led the line for the 20th time this season as the hosts went in search of a vital three points against their more in-form side who were chasing promotion.
They, however, suffered a first-half blow when Libyan midfielder Ahmad Bengali received his marching orders six minutes after the hour mark when he picked up two yellow cards in five minutes as both teams went into the break level.
Not to be deterred by the numerical disadvantage, Crotone took the lead two minutes after the restart when Italian midfielder Andrea Barberis found Simy and the attacker tucked home his 13th league strike of the season.
The goal brought the best out of the visitors but Crotone held their ground for the remainder of the match to claim the vital three points in their quest for survival.
The win moves Crotone to 13th on the table, five points above the relegation zone with two games left in the campaign.
