Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Agali believes Odion Ighalo will be key for the country at next month’s Africa Cup of Nations after news broke out about the player’s injury, reports.

Agali told in an exclusive interview, that Ighalo’s form heading into the competition makes him a huge boost for the Eagles as they hope to secure a fourth continental crown in Egypt.

“Ighalo’s presence in the Eagles’ attack is very important because he is more experienced and prolific in front of goal. We need him and we hope he returns as soon as possible and to his best too,” Agali stated.

The former Schalke 04 of Germany forward, however, believes the Eagles will not lack backup heading into the competition following the impressive performance of the duo of Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu who have shown their capabilities when given the nod to lead the Eagles’ attack.

“There are other options upfront though not as experienced as the former Watford man but are as well goal poachers in their rights. The likes of Osimhen, Onuachu offer options for us so I think we are covered,” Agali concluded.

Now working as a scout for Gernot Rohr, the 40-year-old, however, failed to confirm or deny rumours of a possible return for Simy Nwankwo, with Agali stating categorically that Rohr has his team already for the Nations Cup.
