Super Eagles striker, Odion Jude Ighalo is still reveling in scoring the only and winning goal of the team’s opening match of the 2019 AFCON last weekend, reports.

The Shanghai Shenhua star told exclusively that he was happy to have scored the only goal and also bagging the points available.

“I want to thank God for the goal, most especially the victory because we took all three points and that was very important. I am also happy for the level of teamwork in the squad, everyone played their role well, even those on the bench. So I’m really happy to have scored that goal.

“It was a difficult game, we knew it was going to be so because we saw some videos of their recent encounters; so we expected a tough contest and prepared for it. Thank God it went in our favour,” Ighalo said.

The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a return to European football added that Wednesday’s game against Guinea would equally be difficult but that the team will build from their opening day victory to solidify their grip on the group.

“The game against Guinea will be another tougher tie because they are a tougher side. They have a very good striker and also they’ve got fast wingers, so it’s going to be tough.

“We need to build on from the last game; the win gives us more confidence going into the next game but we have to work hard and I believe the results will come,” Ighalo concluded.
