Super Eagles skipper, John Obi Mikel was conspicuously missing from the team’s training on Wednesday with a suspected knock which has now ruled him out of their Round of 16 clash against defending champions Cameroon on Saturday, reports.

The newly signed Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder made his 89th senior cap in Nigeria’s 2-0 loss to Madagascar last weekend but will however have to wait another time to reach his 90th cap with the Super Eagles.

His injury will come as a blow for Coach Gernot Rohr who has had to battle with illness and injury around the camp with defender Shehu Abdullahi another possible absentee against the Indomitable Lions.

Rohr would, however, welcome back defender Kenneth Omeruo who was rested against Madagascar with Alex Iwobi expected to fill the void left by Mikel as the Eagles aim to put behind last weekend’s loss and knockout Cameroon from the competition.
