*Debunk superstition associated with it

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will wear their less fancied dark green jersey in the semifinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, even as the team have played down the superstitious belief attached to it, report.

With the Algerians selected to wear their all-white Jersey, the Eagles will have to do with their dark green jerseys which Nigerians associate with ill luck.

Some of the players, who pleaded anonymity, assured that the dark green jersey would not stop the team from reaching the final of the tournament on Sunday night.

“We are very much aware of the fears of Nigerians. We read a whole lot about it on social media but I believe it doesn’t mean anything in football. The jersey is just the colour but our hearts will do the playing,”, one of the players said.

“Obviously, we also put it in mind sometimes but as players, we must focus on the game. We played against Madagascar in it and lost but we have also won matches in it. It’s difficult to overlook it but we will try to overcome it,” another added.

Recent history shows Nigerians do have a reason to be scared as the Eagles lost 2-0 to Madagascar in the dark green jersey and also failed to fly at the 2018 World Cup with the jersey after losing to Croatia and Argentina.
