*Says future bright for young Eagles

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt has been an impressive outing for him, Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has saidt he has been an impressive debut AFCON for him

The Arsenal winger, who has had to step into the creative midfield role in the Eagles, however said that he remains focused on doing well for the country in the future and has not thought of inheriting the number 10 jersey worn by Mikel which was also worn by his uncle, Austin Jay Jay Okocha during his active days with the Eagles.

“I think I’ve done okay in my first AFCON but I hope I can end on a good note. Our team is young and I believe the future is bright. I have not thought about inheriting Mikel’s number 10 jersey because my focus is on doing my best regardless of jersey number,” Iwobi stated.

He further added that although the team remains disappointed in the semifinal loss to Algeria, they would, however, put it behind and try to end well against Tunisia on Wednesday for the bronze medal.

“We were disappointed to have lost in the semifinal and we felt down for a bit but at the end of the day, it’s another match and we have to go again,” Iwobi concluded.
