Captain of the National U-23 team, Okechukwu Azubuike has declared that they must do all in their powers to qualify for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations as they prepare to face Sudan in back to back encounters in September, reports.

The former Olympic bronze medal winning midfielder led the team in the last round of qualifiers and saw off Libya in Asaba to scale to the final round.

Azubuike, who plays for top Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, told from his base that he has been thinking about the game which is expected to be played on the 6th and 10th of September, first away in Sudan and then the return fixture in Asaba, Delta State.

“It is a start of the new season here in Europe and I have moved to Istanbul Basaksehir but that has not made me forget that we have an important qualifier in September which we must win to participate at the U23 Afcon later in the year.

“It is a game we must win and I am sure I and my colleagues know this,” the former Caykur Rizespor of Turkey midfielder charged.

The Nigerian team qualified to play Sudan in the final round after dismissing Libya 4-2 on aggregate and will face a scoring side in the Sudanese team which also defeated Kenya 2-0 on aggregate and that was after scaling past Seychelles 2-1 on aggregate in the first round of the qualifiers.

Currently, Coach Imama Amapakabo called up 35 local players to prepare for the encounter and he is expected to release a list of seven foreign-based professionals for the encounter in w few days time.
