New Super Eagles invitee, Joshua Erowoli Maja has expressed his delight after earning his first Super Eagles call-up ahead of Nigeria’s friendly against Ukraine later on Tuesday evening, reports.

The 20-year-old, who was invited late after France-based Henry Onyekuru who pulled out due to visa issues, further said that he wants to help the team do better and also repay the coaches’ trust in him.

“I’m delighted to get my first call-up for Nigeria. It’s a big opportunity to show the fans and the coaches what i can do. I am going to work my hardest to make all those who have made this dream a reality very proud.

“I play as a central forward and I like to create chances and score goals and generally work hard for the team. So I’m looking forward to getting my chances in the team so I can show what I can do and also stay here for a long time,” Maja concluded.

After a breathtaking 2018/2019 season with League one side Sunderland where he scored 15 goals in 24 league appearances, the former Manchester City youth prodigy joined Bordeaux in January of 2019 after turning down a new contract with the English club.

He however suffered a season ending injury after just seven games with the French side but recovered to start the 2019/2020 season with style, netting once in his first four games, a performance which earned him a debut call-up for Nigeria.
