Super Eagles Team B Coach, Imama Amapakabo has backed his lads to overturn the embarrassing 4-1 loss to Togo in Lome on Sunday, saying they can progress to the next round of the 2020 CHAN qualifiers, AOIFootball.com reports.
The former Enugu Rangers gaffer blamed lack of concentration and ill-luck for the team’s defeat but believes the return leg in Nigeria will be a different ball game for the Togolese.
“It’s unfortunate, the result of the first leg in Togo. The boys started the game well and controlled proceedings from the start of the whistle, but we lost by a wide margin.
“Now we know what we have to do in the return leg. It won’t be easy to overturn a three-goal deficit but I’m confident we can scale through over both legs,” Imama said.
An early strike from Ibrahim Sanusi put the home-based Eagles in front but a brace from Richard Nane overturned the scoreline in favour of the Togolese with further strikes from Marouf Tchakei and Ashraf Agoro making it an uphill task for Nigeria to progress.
The return leg will take place in Nigeria on the 18th of October and the aggregate winner will qualify for the African Nations Championship in Cameroon next year.
