Coach of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions and former back-to-back CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba Int’l of Aba, Usman Abdallah, believes that they have an advantage going into the second leg tie against Sudanese side, Al Hilal FC this weekend, reports.
In an exclusive chat with, shortly before the team departed the Murtala Mohammed International Airport for Omdurman, the soft-spoken coach submitted that the People’s Elephant have a technical advantage from the goalless draw in the first leg against the Sudanese, and they are ready to make the most of it.
“The first leg didn’t go the way we had expected it, but all hope is not lost yet.
“Not conceding a goal at home is also an advantage that can work for us in the return leg, and we will give it our best shot,” he said.
It would be recalled that Al-Hilal FC played with a man down for the most part of the game in Aba, a circumstance which Abdallah believed worked against the People’s Elephants, as the visitors were reprogrammed to play defensively, knowing that they had a numerical deficiency.
“They lost a man early in the first leg, and they resorted to playing a defensive style of game; that really affected the outcome of the match.
“It’s always difficult when you play against a side that is a man down because the whole team will be defensive-minded,” he further stated.
The second leg of the encounter is set to be explosive; while Enyimba would be playing to win, bearing in mind that a score draw will see them through to the group stages, their hosts would also go all out for victory and this will eventually throw the game open, according to Abdallah.
“There will be open-play in Omdurman, as both teams will come out in search of goals.
“They have the ambition to win and so do we, as a result, both teams will have to come out and play,” Abdallah concluded.
