*Enyimba knocked out of CAF Champions League
Seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL champions, Enugu Rangers, on Sunday evening survived a scare from Gabonese side, AS Pelican FC by beating them 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup, reports.
The Coal City side went down 0-1 to the Gabonese 5 minutes into the game via an Amores’ strike from a set-piece, but the visitors’ lead didn’t last beyond the 18th minute, as Ifeanyi George restored parity through a header.
Two quick goals in the second half ensured the Flying Antelopes sent the Gabonese packing from the competition;
Nnamdi Egbujuo who got the only goal in Gabon, scored the second goal in the 51st minute to make it 2-1 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate, while Ibrahim Olawoyin came up with the match-winner in after six minutes.
By this result, Rangers have progressed into the CAF Confederations Cup Playoffs.
In a similar development, Enyimba Int’l FC have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League via a lone goal in Omdurman, and will now play in the CAF Confederations Cup playoffs.
