Golden Eaglets’ captain, Samson Tijani has hailed the performance of his teammates after they overcame a sloppy first half performance to overcome Hungary in their opening match of the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, reports.

The Manu Garba led boys surprisingly went behind in the opening minutes before Tijani equalized from the spot but another lack of concentration in the defence gave the Europeans the edge as they went into the break 2-1 up.

However, second half goals from Usman Ibrahim, Oluwatimelehin Adeniyi and a sublime free-kick from Tijani sealed an impressive 4-2 win for the boys to hold early supremacy in Group B.

The impressive Tijani who spoke after the game further thanked Nigerians for their unending support whilst also positing that the team will continue to work hard and get better.

“I’m very grateful to God and also want to thank my players for putting more efforts for us to equalize and then come back and win the game. It was a good moment for us, even when we were down, we had the belief and at the end everything went well for us.

“To our fans back home in Nigeria, we want to urge them to keep supporting us and we promise we will make the country proud here in Brazil,” Tijani concluded.

Nigeria will next take on South American side Ecuador on Tuesday after the Ecuadorians defeated Australia 2-1 to stay second behind the Golden Eaglets.
