Former Flying Eagles midfielder, Ayotomiwa Dele-Bashiru has said the AFCON U-23 Championship in Egypt will offer him the opportunity to prove himself once again after a not too impressive World Cup with the U-20 team in Poland, AOIFootball.con reports.

Speaking ahead of the team’s opening game against Ivory Coast at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Saturday, the 20-year-old stated that the team must play as a unit and will not underrate any opponent.

“I’m very ready; it’s a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent and play alongside some great players and hopefully we can go all the way.

“I need to be more confident going into this tournament and not be afraid to make mistakes and together as a team we just need to not underestimate any team because we respect every team and we just want to clinch the Olympic ticket,” Dele-Bashiru said.

The former Manchester City academy star further praised the impact of Pep Guardiola on his career but stated his move to Watford was the right one as he wanted more first-team opportunity, having featured for the academy side at the Etihad.
