Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong has hailed his side’s performance after they came from behind to beat Benin Republic 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to record their first win of the qualifying series, reports.

The Udinese of Italy defender, who led the Eagles to the much-needed win, took to the social media to express his satisfaction and was more elated to have gotten the victory at his home soil in Akwa Ibom.

“Good to start our AFCON 2021 campaign with a win. Always special to play on home soil in Uyo! +3 points,” Ekong posted.

A first-half penalty from striker Victor Osimhen put the Eagles level going into the break before winger Samuel Kalu dazzled past the Benin defense to score the winner in the second half and hand Nigeria all 3 points.

The win sees the Super Eagles stay tops in Group L with 3 points and are followed by Lesotho and Sierra Leone who both have one point whilst Benin stay bottom with zero point.
