Enyimba International FC of Aba coach, Usman Abdallah had stated that the target of the club is to defend the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title they won in Lagos seven months ago, reports.
Speaking exclusively to shortly after the team dismissed Adamawa United FC 2-0 before their home fans, the soft-spoken father of two, maintained that the mindset of everyone at the club has been conditioned towards title defence, adding that they are not troubled by their inability to maintain their unbeaten run so far.
“Our target as a club is to retain the league title we won last season in Lagos and we’re giving it our best shot.
“Both players and officials at the club already have that mindset; that is what we’re working with,” Abdullah said.
With the enormous target at the club, the People’s Elephants lost the unbeaten record away to Sunshine Stars of Akure on Match Day 3, and Abdullah does not see this as setback, maintaining that he would prefer to be within a touching distance to close challengers and taking the lead in the month of April or May.

“All I want at this point is to keep a close touch on those ahead, ensuring that they’re not more than three points ahead of us.

“We’re not keen on being league leaders in either November or December; we’ll rather be on top in April or May; that is the only way we can achieve our aim,” Abdallah concluded.
