Super Eagles sensation, Victor Osimhen ended an eventful year with a bang as he grabbed his side’s only goal in their embarrassing 5-1 loss away at Monaco, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having been given the all-clear by the medics, the 20-year-old led the line for the Lille based club who were seeking to inflict a second straight loss to Monaco in the space of five days after both sides also faced off in the cup on Tuesday.
But just like in the cup game, the young striker broke the deadlock from a similar kind of position when he once again lashed on to a pass from Jonathan Ikone before keeping his calm to fire past Benjamin Lecomte fir 1-0.
The goal will, however, bring the beast out of Monaco who went attacking crazy afterward as they scored twice in 5 minutes to overturn the result and take a 2-1 lead going into half time.
League top scorer Wissam Ben Yedsar then squashed any chance of a come back when he scored a brace in the 53rd and 65th minute to put Monaco 4-1 up before captain Kamil Glik then ensured Lille a shocking Christmas when he scored deep into added time to complete a 5-1 thrashing.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, it was also a disappointing end to the year for the duo of Samuel Kalu and Moses Simon who suffered defeats with their respective clubs.
Simon and his Bordeaux team were unfortunate away at Stade Rennais as they lost by a lone goal whilst Moses Simon also saw his Nantes side lose 2-1 at home to Angers with both players seeing 90 minutes of play.
