Nigerian international, Paul Onuachu was the match hero for defending champions KRC Genk as they ended a troubled first stanza of the league in style following a 2-1 home win over visitors KAS Eupen, reports.

The 25-year-old was given the all-clear to lead the line for the hosts in their final game of the year with fellow countryman and former NPFL goal king Stephen Odey once again named among the substitutes.

They did, however, make the most of their home advantage when they took the lead against the run of play on 12 minutes when Junya Ito stood firm to convert a pass from Joakim Maehle to put Genk 1-0 up.

The Nigerian doubled his side’s lead on the hour mark when he finished off a well-worked ball from Junya Ito to record his 7th league goal of the campaign and give the host a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The two-goal lead was then halved three minutes later by Lazarre Amani but Genk held on to claim just their 9th win of the campaign and stay 8th on the log.
