Manchester United Coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has applauded Odion Ighalo after Thursday night’s brace he scored to inspire his boyhood club to a 3-0 win over Derby in the FA Cup, reports.

Having opened his goal-scoring account against Brugge in the Europa League last Thursday, the Shanghai striker scored against Derby when he pounced on a loose ball in the box before guiding it into the bottom corner despite being surrounded by the Derby center-backs.

He then added a second with a thumping finish into the roof of the net after his first attempt was blocked in the line.

An excited Solskjaer, who spoke afterward believes the Nigerian is proving vital for the club as they deal with the absence of Marcos Rashford through injury.

“He is doing what it says on the tin and what we asked for when we signed him.

“He is coming in, playing upfront, and he’s a different type of striker. He scores, he gets chances every game and today he could have had another couple. I am very happy with him. It gives us a chance with Mason [Greenwood] and Anthony [Martial] to keep them fresh as well.

“He is experienced and has scored goals all of his career. He is in and around the box, he reads it, he sniffs out where the chances will come. I think that striker is vital for a team,” Solskjaer concluded.
