Nigeria versus Ghana signposts the biggest fixture of the final round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 African qualifiers slated for May 1 to 17, AOIFootball.com reports.
Flamingos were ruthless against hapless Guinean Syli Starlets in the just concluded first round of the qualifiers. Nigeria white-washed Guinea 6-1 away in Conakry and hit them 5-1 in Lagos to eliminate Guinea on a whopping 11-2 goals aggregate.
But the final round against an age-long foe, Ghana will be a true test of Flamingos readiness to return to the world stage after the Flamingos Class of 2018 were stopped by Cameroon U-17 Women’s football team from going to the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final in Uruguay.
Ghana eliminated Liberia, beating them 8-0 in Accra and 2-0 away to qualify on 10-0 goals aggregate.
This clash of two Africa’s biggest names in women’s football circle holds a lot of memories as both countries have done many bitter battles on the football pitch with Nigeria have upper hand in women’s football.
The first leg of the final round will take place in Accra on May 1-3 and return leg in Lagos on May 15-17 even as the winner over two legs will qualify to represent Africa as one of the three continental flagbearers.
