Super Eagles forward Simy Nwankwo continued to lead the mark for Nigerian players across Europe when he scored his 18th league goal of the campaign to help promotion chasers Crotone to a 1-0 win at home to Pordenone, reports.

With four goals in his last two league encounters, the former Gil Vicente forward led the line for the 31st time this campaign with the hosts hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to an impressive 10 league games.

But despite dominating in terms of possession and overall play, Crotone failed to make the most of their advantage as they were unable to break their visitors as the half time beckoned.

Simy however had other ideas just on the dot of 45 minutes when he jumped highest to head home a Salvatore Molina cross to put Crotone 1-0 up going into the break.

The strike was then enough to seal all three points as the hosts held on for the vital win which now sees them solidify their grip on second to move 5 points clear of third-place Spezia who moved above Pordenone.

Also, Simy now moves top of the scorers’ chart on 18 goals, finishing the game with a rating of 7.7, completing 100% of his take-ons, winning 7 duels, making 4 clearances, and also completing 77% of his passes.
