Super Eagles winger, Henry Onyekuru marked his return for French club AS Monaco with a wonderful performance after he helped set up their first goal in a 2-0 friendly win over Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, reports.

Having impressed in an inter-squad friendly, the winger was handed his first start by head coach Niko Kovac in what was the club’s final preseason friendly before the new league resumption.

The 23-year-old was however in the centre of it all when he helped set up the first goal after 20 minutes with a fast break and his first-time pass finding Aleksandr Golovin who kept his composure to fire past the Alkmaar goalkeeper for 1-0.

Chances came for the visitors who went into the break with the slim lead but Onyekuru was replaced at half time after a brilliant first 45 minutes.

Speaking after the game, the former Everton striker who was happy with his performance and game time, stated that he hopes to now take the form into the new season where he wants to cement his place in the starting XI.

“It was a nice game for the team, especially for me too; we have worked hard in training since I returned from holiday and I’m happy for the assist too.

“Now we just want to look forward to the new season and do better than what we did last campaign,” Onyekuru said.

The principality club will begin its 2020/2021 Ligue 1 season with a home clash against Reims next weekend.
