*He’s one of the best wingers in France, says Kovac
Super Eagles winger, Henry Onyekuru has expressed his readiness for Monaco’s Sunday league opener at home to Stade de Reims, even as he dreams of an opening day win, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of the 2019/2020 season on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray but now hopes to right the wrong in his first season with the club and make a mark in the 2020/2021 campaign.
Speaking to AOIFootball.com, ahead of the clash, the former KAS Eupen forward stated that the whole squad is in full gear and will take the game with all seriousness despite a positive test of Coronavirus from their camp.
“We are fully ready for the league opener; we have worked hard in training and I believe we can begin the season with a win.
“It has been amazing working with the new coach. He has given me the much-needed support to be a part of the team and I can only repay him with a brilliant performance on the pitch,” Onyekuru stated.
Similarly, Monaco Coach Niko Kovac spoke about the Nigerian during his prematch conference where he admitted that he was impressed with the winger’s outing against AZ Alkmaar in a friendly.
“You have certainly seen how we played against Alkmaar. We played well, we were well prepared to line up in a 4-3-3. But the system is not important to me, it is mainly the attitude of the players that I watch.
“Henry and Gelson bring us work on the wings, we know their qualities. I have confidence in them, and I think we have one of the best pair of wingers in France,” Kovac stated.
