Super Eagles winger, Henry Onyekuru was the saving grace for Monaco as he came off the bench to set up the winner for them as they continued their unbeaten start to the campaign following a 2-1 win over FC Nantes, AOIFootball.com reports.
In a game that saw two Super Eagles players go head to head on matchday 3 of the Ligue 1 season, Moses Simon was given the nod to start in the colours of Nantes whilst Henry Onyekuru dropped to the bench after starting the previous two league games.
The hosts were however up within the opening 5 minutes when French youngster Sofiane Diop scored against the run of play to make it 1-0 before Nantes had a goal canceled on the 20th minute by the Video Assistant Referee.
Nantes then got their equalizer after the hour mark when Dennis Appiah set up Ludovic Blas with the midfielder making no mistake to strike home for 1-1.
Onyekuru was then introduced for Kelvin Volland two minutes after the hour mark, and the Nigerian made an instant impact three minutes later when he received a pass from Cesc Fabregas to then set up fellow substitute, Willem Geubbels who fired past the goalkeeper for 2-1.
The result was enough for Onyekuru and his side as they condemned Moses Simon’s Nantes to just their first league loss of the season.
