Super Eagles winger, Samuel Kalu came off the bench to score his first goal of the campaign in a match that saw Bordeaux fall to their first defeat away at newly-promoted RC Lens, reports.

With one win and two draws from their opening three games, the duo of Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja was surprisingly left on the bench with the visitors hoping to tame their on-form hosts who were hoping to make it back to back home wins.

Despite a dominant first 45 minute the host failed to find the breakthrough goal as they were made to wait till the second period to get a reward for their dominance when Ignatius Gandhi opened scoring two minutes after the break.

Things then went from bad to worse for Bordeaux as they were reduced to 10 men when Paul Baysse was shown his second yellow card after a foul in the box with Gael Kakuta stepping up to convert the resulting penalty to make it 2-0.

Kalu and Maia were then introduced with 9 minutes of normal time remaining, with Kalu making the most of his time on the pitch as he pulled one back 5 minutes into added time to make it 2-1.

His performance was however enough to make him Bordeaux’s best player on the night as he finished with a rating of 7.4, completed 67% of his passes, won 3 duels, and also made one interception.
