Former Germany U-20 skipper, Kevin Akpoguma has said he felt proud and fulfilled after coming off the bench to make his international debut, five years after he captained Germany to a 1-0 win over Nigeria at the U-20 World Cup, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Hoffenheim of Germany defender recently got his international clearance from FIFA and was introduced for the impressive Tyronne Ebuehi after the hour mark, with Akpoguma showing plenty of energy on the flanks.
Speaking after the game, the 25-year-old noted that although the Eagles failed to get a point, they however did well against arguably the best team on the continent.
“I’m very impressed and proud to be a Nigerian player fully. I’m looking forward to the best games already.
“We lost today (Friday) but we tried our best to get a point from the game because in the last 10 minutes we pressured them well but we however failed to get the needed equalizer,” Akpoguma said.
The former Karlsruher youth player further added that the coaches might have seen one or two lapses from the loss as the team will now be hoping to do better in their next game on Tuesday and get in shape for next month AFCON qualifiers.
“It’s just a test game and I am sure the coaches have seen what we can improve on. So, now we are looking forward to our next game and most importantly our AFCON qualifiers next month,” he concluded.
