Super Eagles winger, Samuel Kalu made a winning return for French side Bordeaux when he helped them to an all-important 3 points away at high flyers Rennes, reports.

Having missed their last four league games due to an injury he sustained while on international duty with Nigeria last month, the 23-year-old, who only recently returned to training about a week ago was surprisingly named in the starting XI alongside fellow Eagle Josh Maja.

On the back foot of two consecutive league losses and failing to score in any of those two games, the visitors had their work cut out for them at the Roazhon Park in Rennes with the host putting one eye on their champions league clash with Chelsea on Tuesday.

Clearly the better side from the opening exchanges, Bordeaux dominated play from the blast of the whistle with Kalu and Ben Harfa particularly impressive but the host defence was resolute as the scores remain goalless after the half-hour mark.

However, with just eight minute to half time, the visitors got their deserved lead when the lively Kalu wiggled past three markers from his own half before producing a defence-splitting pass for Ben Arfa who in turn kept his coo before slotting pass the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Kalu was then cautioned two minute into the second half for a needless foul before he was then replaced alongside Maja in the half-hour mark with Bordeaux holding on to claim their 4th win of the campaign and move up to 11 on the log standings.

The 23-year-old now appears to have put his early-season distractions behind him following plenty of transfer rumours, as he has now been directly involved in 3 goals (2 goals 1 assist) in his last 4 league outings.
