Nigerian international, Taiwo Awonyi ended his six-game run without a goal for the new club FC Union Berlin when he scored his first Bundesliga goal of the campaign as they defeated FC Köln 2-1 away from home, reports.

The Liverpool loanee started his 3rd league game of the campaign for the visitors whilst the hosts had the duo of Kingsley Ehizube and Tolu Arokodare on the bench for the matchday 8 encounter.

Having been on the back foot for most of the opening exchanges, the visitors took the lead against the run of play as the impressive Awoniyi benefited from a defensive mix up to keep his cool and slot past the goalkeeper on the 27th minute for 1-0.

Just when they thought they could take their slim 1-0 advantage into the half, the hosts leveled matters after the half-hour mark through Ellyes Skhiri.

Max Kruse then restored Union Berlin’s lead 18 minutes from time when he fired home from his initial penalty miss to make it 2-1 and seal a big three points on the road for Berlin who stay just four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Awoniyi was replaced after 73 minutes whilst the duo of Tolu and Kingsley featured for 8 and 11 minutes respectively.
