Super Eagles’ new number one goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has attributed his new found form to hard work, consistency, and trust after a series of amazing performances with Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation since breaking into the first team in October and has now helped the club move away from relegation to the middle of the table.
Speaking to AOIFootball.com after last weekend’s 2-1 win over FC Emmem, the German-born shot-stopper further posited that he now wants to help the club continue their rise on the table as they look forward to achieving their season’s objective.
“I think hard work is always paying off, it’s just a matter of time and a matter of God’s planning and timing. That’s why I trusted my process and kept on doing my thing and will continue to do it.
“It’s important that I am in a good position with my team after a difficult start to the season for us. The last few months have been amazing for me and the squad so I just want to help the team and achieve our goals,” Okoye added.
The former Bayern Leverkusen youth prodigy has not looked back since his debut against ADO Den Haag in October, going on to make 5 league appearances whilst keeping 2 clean sheets in the process.
The Nigerian has won 75% of the points gathered by Rotterdam this campaign with the club initially failing to win in any of their six league games prior to when Okoye made his debut against Heerenveen in November.
They currently sit 9th on the 18-team table, having picked up 12 points from their opening 11 league games.
