Omeruo was outstanding against Girona

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo made a winning return to the starting XI as he helped Leganes reach the second round of the Spanish Copa Del Rey following their hard-fought 0-1 win away at Ourense CF, AOIFootball.com reports.

Having made a cameo appearance against Rayo Vallecano earlier this month after returning from a long-term injury, the 27-year-old started his first game since the start of November.

The first half of the game was much of a drab affair before the host were reduced to 10-men in the second half when Wadir Costa was sent off on 53 minutes with Omeruo been withdrawn on 74 minutes as the game ended goalless after 90 minutes.

Sergio Gonzalez however broke the hosts’ resolve twelve minutes into extra time as he finished off a Kevin Bua pass to seal the win for Leganes.

Elsewhere at the Estadio La Solano in Cuidad, former Golden Eaglets skipper Kelechi Nwakali came off the bench at half time to inspire Huesca to a 3-2 win away at CD Marchamalo.

With his side leading 1-0 courtesy of a ninth-minute opener from Rafa Mir, Nwakali replaced Idrissa Doumbia on the resumption of the second half.

The hosts however sent the game to extra time when Spanish midfielder Brun finished off a pass from Jony as the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Clearly the better of the two sides despite failing to seal the win in regulation time, Huesca regained the lead four minutes into extra time when Rafa Mir fired home for 2-1 when the hosts failed to clear from a corner kick.

Nwakali was then involved in Huesca third goal of the night when his long pass from the defence found Javier Ontiveros who had a pocket of space to run through on goal before he unselfishly passed on Mir who tapped home into an empty net to complete his hattrick and make it 3-1.

Jose Miguel Garcia then scored a late consolation two minutes from time but it was Huesca who held on to progress to the second round of the competition.

Nwakali who saw 75 minutes of total action, had a game rating of 7.5, completing 85% of his passes, winning 10 duels, and also completing 100% of his dribbles.
