Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has attributed his side’s 1-1 draw away at Sporting Gijon to ill-luck after they failed to pick maximum points in the encounter despite dominating from the blast of the whistle, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 27-year-old started his first league game since early November and was rock solid all through the encounter with the visitors failing to close the gap on 3rd place Almeria who were beaten away at Espanyol.
The visitors were by far the better side and should have opened the scoring in the first half but a smart save from Diego Marino kept the match open with Omeruo also heading inches wide moments before the break as the first half ended goalless.
The hosts were then awarded a penalty by the VAR in the second half as Borja Lopez was fouled in the box with Uros Durdevic making amends for his initial miss to fire home for 1-0.
Leganes then got a penalty of their own six minutes into added time as Borja Baston fired home to seal a 1-1 draw.
“Unlucky to only pick one point from a game we deserved to win. We keep going,” Omeruo posted afterward.
The former Chelsea player finished with a rating of 7.1, made 3 clearances and interceptions, 4 successful tackles, won 8 duels, and also completed 86% of his passes.
