The 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League season finally got off to an electrifying start on Sunday as giants Plateau United lost 0-2 at home to Kwara United, whilst Rabiu Ali inspired Kano Pillars to a draw at Adamawa, AOIFootball.com reports.

Having failed to get past the qualifying rounds of the CAF Champions League, Jos based Plateau United were hoping to make amends when they hosted Kwara United at the New Jos Stadium.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, the hosts were stunned as second half goals from Jose Fatekun and Michael Ohanu handed Coach Abdul Maikaba his first league loss of the campaign to heap more pressure on Plateau who have failed to win any of their opening 3 competitive games this season.

At the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, home ground of Adamawa United, Kano Pillars were the visitors for matchday one with inspiration skipper Rabiu Ali making the headlines as he appeared for the 20th season in the NPFL.

The former Eagles midfielder however showed age is just a number as he put the Sai Masu Gida boys ahead after just 14 minutes, finishing off a pass from David Ebuka to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The hosts did however claw back 14 minutes from time when a goal-bound effort from Isa Garba was helped home by Abdullahi Musa with both teams settling for a share of the points.

Elsewhere at the Soccer Temple in Agege, first-half strikes from Ebenezer Odeyemi and Balogun Muyiwa put hosts MFM 2-0 up before John Paul Chinedu grabbed what proved to be a consolation halfway into the first stanza, with the host picking up their first 3 points of the campaign.

Similarly, home wins were recorded in Nnewi and Kaduna as lone strikes from Nonso Nzediegwu earned FC Ifeanyi Ubah a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars whilst Stone Onukwube was the hero for Jigawa Golden Stars as they defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Finally, at the Lafia City Stadium, hosts Nasarawa United had to dig deep and come from a goal down to defeat a spirited Wilki Tourists side.

Promise Damala put the visitors ahead with what was the first goal of the 2020/2021 NPFL season before the hosts leveled almost immediately via the boots of Reuben Nicodemus.

The defender then sealed all three points for the Lafia City Boys when he headed home a second in the 52nd minute to seal all 3 points.
