Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu made it a perfect end to 2020 as he scored his 15th league goal in the colours of KRC Genk in their forced 1-1 draw at home to Waasland-Beveren on matchday 19 of the Belgian Pro League, AOIFootball.com reports.
Without a goal in any of his last two league appearances, the 26-year-old led the line for the 15th time this campaign with fellow countryman Cyriel Dessers made to watch from the bench.
Onuachu however needed just 24 minutes to open the scoring for Genk when he received a defense splitting pass from Bryan Heynen before chipping the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 much to the joy of his teammates.
Down but still very much in the game, the visitors equalized on the stroke of half time when Aboubakary Koita’s stunning free-kick flew past the wall before beating the goalkeeper to make it 1-1 at the break.
Onuachu then made way for compatriot Dessers with 6 minutes left to play but it was the visitors who held firm as they claimed their first point in 3 games following back-to-back losses.
The win ensured Genk finish the first half of the season in second place, four points behind leaders Club Brugge who have played one game more whilst Onuachu moves up the scorer’s chart with 15 strikes, two clear of second-placed Thomas Henry.
