After their Match Day 1 encounter against Wikki Tourists FC in the long-awaited kickoff of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, Nasarawa United FC defender, Uchenna Tebo Franklin, has expressed optimism in his side’s ability to improve as the season progresses, AOIFootball.com reports.
Speaking from the camp of the Solid Miners a day after their season’s opener, the energetic light-skinned defender stated that the Lafia based side had a few moments of struggle during the game, but remains confident that they will improve as the season unfolds, adding that all they need is more competitive games.
“We have great room for improvement as the season goes on,” said the the 6 feet plus center back. “We struggled a bit in the match and it’s understandable; it’s the first match of the new season.
“What we need is more competitive matches in the course of the season and our level of fitness will be balanced,” he said.
The solid Miners had almost a smooth ride in their preseason games, defeating the likes of Plateau United and Kano Pillars amongst other top Nigerian clubs, but the former FC Vitosha Bistritsa player opines that preseason games are not the true test of a team’s strength and character.
“Teams shouldn’t be judged by their preseason games because friendlies are quite different from competitive games.
“We played a lot of preseason matches and won a good number of them, but getting into the real competition, we only had to win our first match by coming from a goal down,” concluded Franklin.
