Nigerian international, Umar Sadiq began 2021 with a bang as he scored his first hat-trick in Spanish football to inspire hosts UD Almeria to a 3-1 win over SD Ponferradina on match day 20 of the league , reports.

Having lost the final league game of the year away at Espanyol, Almeria needed to bounce back and close the gap on the top two teams who both failed to win their opening games of the new year.

They however took the lead inside the opening 100 seconds when a blistering counterattack setup Ager Aketxe and he in turn found Sadiq who fired home with his left foot to make it 1-0.

The former AS Roma man then scored his brace and Almeria’s second 19 minutes later, this time firing home from a Nikola Maras cutback header before he then completed his hat-trick eight minutes later from close range to make it 3-0.

The Rio 2016 bronze medalist then made way just before the hour mark as the visitors grabbed a late consolation eight minutes from time to end the game 3-1.

The goals take Sadiq’s tally to 9 for the season, 3 goals behind Espanyol’s Raul de Tomas with Almeria just one point behind leaders Espanyol.
