Captain of Nigeria Olympic Eagles, Azubuike Okechukwu believes his time in the first team of Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir is near despite starting just two of their 18 league games this season, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 23-year-old missed the most part of the season opener due to injury but however believes he still has plenty to offer the club and will continue to work hard in training to ensure he gets back into the good books of the manager.
Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw at home to Sivasspor over the weekend, the Rio 2016 Olympic medalist, who was an unused sub for the clash, further reiterated his desire to add to his one senior appearance for Nigeria despite earning several caps at U-23 level.
“I haven’t been getting enough plying because I started late due to injury, but I’m working hard to win my place back in the team. It’s has been a tough process but I believe my time is near already.
“With the national team, I’m hopeful and also working hard to get more time in my team and then look forward to playing for the Eagles because I have to be consistent to ensure I get invited,” Azubuike said.
It’s been a disappointing year for the league defending champions who have failed to replicate their last season’s performance in the league as they currently sit 12th on the log and a distance 15 points behind leaders Besiktas.
