Super Eagles forward, Simy Nwankwo produced a near-perfect display on Sunday for relegation fighters Crotone following their resounding 4-1 home win over Benevento to record their first win of the new year, reports.

Having failed to win any of their opening 3 league fixtures of the new year, the 28-year-old was given the nod to lead the line for the hosts who were desperate to record just their 3rd league win of the campaign after 12 defeats already this campaign.

They did however get off to a perfect start when Simy put Kamil Glik under intense pressure with the defender heading past his own goalkeeper to give Crotone a 1-0 lead inside four minutes.

Simy then made it 2-0 just before the half-hour mark as his side cruised into a comfortable 2-0 half time lead.

The lanky forward then completed his brace nine minutes after the restart to make it 3-0 before he then turned provider for Milos Vulic moments later as they secured the three points after going 4-0 up.

Substitutes Iago Falaye then grabbed a late consolation for the visitors but it was Simy and his teammates who rejoiced at the blast of the whistle, a result that saw them close the gap on 17th placed Genoa.

With his brace, the Eagles forward are just one goal shy of his best-ever tally in the Italian top flight of 7 goals, a feat he achieved during the 2017/2018 season with Crotone.
