Nine times African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will next week depart for the City of Antalya, Turkey for the 2021 Gold City Cup scheduled to take place between February 15-24, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having been inactive since crashing out of the Olympic qualifiers in October of 2019, the reigning African champions will begin life under new coach Randy Waldrum who was appointed in October last year.
The tournament in Turkey will serve as a warm-up for the squad before a friendly in Morocco afterward, with both events expected to help the Falcons prepare for the 2022 African Women Nations Cup.
The Super Falcons were initially expected to open their campaign at the Turkish cup against Zambia on the 17th of February but the Copper Queens pulled out with organizers now looking for another replacement for the Olympic-bound Zambian team.
Nigeria will also take on Uzbekistan on the 20th before also facing Equatorial Guinea in their last game of the group game. All games are expected to take place at the Emir Sports Complex.
