Nigerian midfielder, Okechukwu Azubuike produced a man of the match performance for struggling Istanbul Basaksehir as they reached the Turkish Cup semifinals after beating Fenerbahce 1-2 away, AOIFootball.com reports.

Despite failing to win any of their last 7 games in all competitions, the visitors came into the clash short of confidence with their last win coincidentally coming in last month’s round of 16 clash of the Cup away at Tuzlaspor.

The Olympic Eagles captain started his second cup game of the campaign as he partnered fellow African Youssouf Ndayishimiye as the visitors opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with former Chelsea man Demba Ba leading the line.

Clearly the better side in the first 40 minutes of the clash, the visitors took a deserved lead when Junior Fernandes received a pass from Ozcan following a swift counter-attack to fire home for 1-0.

Things then got worse for the hosts as they were reduced to 10 men following a VAR check after the goal and they made a triple change at the break.

The substitution did change the dimension of the game but Azubuike continued to stand strong at the middle of the park but their resolve was broken 18 minutes from time when Enner Valencia equalized for 1-1.

The visitors did however go on to seal a place in the semifinals when Fredrick Gulbrandsen scored six minutes into extra time to make it 2-1 and help the visitors record their first win in all competitions after 8 games.

“K̶a̶n̶t̶e!” the club posted after the game.
