Nigeria’s Kelechi Nwakali produced a man of the match display for his new side Alcorcon as they earned their first league win of the year following a 1-0 win over UD Logrones, reports.

Having made his debut in last week’s 2-0 loss away at SD Ponferradina, the former Arsenal youth prodigy made his home debut at the Santo Domingo with the hosts gunning for a morale-boosting win to lift them off the bottom.

The visitors did however start the game on the front foot but the host kept their cool at the back as they endured early pressure to keep the game at bay in the opening minutes.

Alcorcon then opened up the game a bit and deservedly got a golden chance on 19 minute when the VAR awarded a penalty to the host with Marc Gual stepping up to convert for 1-0.

The second half was however a replica of the first as the impressive Nwakali chased every ball within his reach to keep his team well in the game to snatch a vital 1-0 win and momentarily move up to 21 on the 22-team standings.

Nwakali, who featured for the entire match duration, picked up a second-half booking, but was Alcorcon’s best player on the pitch with a rating of 7.2, completing 93% of his passes, winning 8 duels, making 2 interceptions, and also making one key tackle and clearance.
