Nigerian forward, Sadiq Umar continued to make a case for himself ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifiers as he scored and assisted another for promotion chasers Almeria in their 4-1 thrashing of visitors CD Lugo, reports.

Following a run of back-to-back defeats to Leganes and Mallorca, the hosts were desperate to restart their promotion chase having now fallen three points behind second-place Espanyol who occupy the last automatic spot.

They however needed just 11 minutes to get their noses in front when Sadiq was fouled in the box, but the Nigerian missed from 12 yards before keeping his composure to fire home the rebound and make it 1-0.

Lugo were then awarded a penalty of their own just before the break with Manu Barreiro stepping up to convert for 1-1 and send the game into half-time.

Just like the first half, the hosts took the lead again, this time just after 3 minutes of the restart when Jose Carlos Lazio made it 2-1 before second-half substitute Jose Corpas made it 3-1 on 70 minutes.

Umar then set up Corpas for his second and their 4th of the game as they cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win to close in on second place Espanyol who travel to Gijon on Sunday.

Sadiq, who was replaced after 78 minutes, earned a game rating of 7.7 as he took his tally for the season to 13 goals whilst also adding 3 assists to his name.
