Super Eagles forward, Simy Nwankwo set a new personal record for his most goals scored in a Serie A campaign when he scored what proved to be a consolation for relegation-threatened Crotone in their 5-1 loss away at Atalanta, reports.

On the bounce of six consecutive league defeats, the 28-year-old returned to the starting XI following four successive bench appearances, with the visitors needing a wild miracle to pick up a valuable result at the Gewiss Stadium.

The hosts wasted no time to show their superiority as they took the lead inside the opening 12 minutes when German midfielder Robin Gomes fired home to make it 1-0 to Atalanta.

Simy then put his side level eleven minutes later when he profited from a miscommunication in the Atalanta midfield before he then kept his cool and composure to fire past Marco Sporteilo and make it 1-1.

The second half did however produce magic for the host as they went riot against Crotone with goals from Jose Luis Palomino, Luis Muriel, and Josep Ilicic within the space of ten minutes gave them a 4-1 lead.

Substitute Aleksei Mirancuk then added salt to Crotone’s injury when he scored the fifth goal 5 minutes from time to seal a one-sided 5-1 win for the Champions League chasers.

The result thus condemns Crotone to their 7th successive league defeat whilst they now need a miraculous run in the league to avoid been relegated to Serie B.
