Former Golden Eaglets’ striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is excited over a possible call up to the Super Eagles by Coach Gernot Rohr, reports.


The 23-year-old Liverpool loanee has been in the news this campaign after taking his chances with German club Mainz 05 where he scored 5 goals and 2 assists to put his name back into the limelight.


Although currently out with an injury, the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, however, said that he appreciates the coach’s honest assessment of his game and hopes to build more to ensure he keeps doing well.


“I believe this is a way to appreciate my efforts and I believe I’m on the right track but that should just bring more strength to work more and make myself better!


“Obviously, for every player, the chance to play for the national team is always special, regardless of the level u play for. I have represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20 and the U-23 so taking it one step further to the Super Eagles will be a great one for me and my career,” Awonyi said.


Having missed his club’s last two league games due to injury, the forward his however on a race against time to be fit for Nigeria’s AFCON showdown against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
