Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the year for Napoli as they kept their Champions League hope following a 3-1 win over Bologna at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, reports.

Having been given the all-clear after a head injury, the Ballers Player of the Year was named on the bench, with Napoli hoping to put aside last week’s disappointing draw at Sassuolo behind them.

They however got the perfect start to the match when Lorenzo Insigne put them ahead after just 8 minutes but the hosts were forced to an early change afterwards when Faouzi Ghoulam picked up an injury with Elseid Hysaj replacing him.

Osimhen was then introduced eight minutes into the second half for Dries Mertens with the hosts hoping to consolidate on their lead.

The 22-year-old however needed just eight minutes to make his mark when he received a pass from Pietro Zielinski with the Nigerian doing plenty of hard work as he ran past his marker before slotting home for 2-0.

Roberto Soriano then set up a nervy finish to the encounter when he pulled one back moments later but Napoli captain Insigne ensured there would be no upset when he scored his second and Napoli’s third to seal a comfortable 3-1 win.

The win now sees Napoli move up to 6th on the table, three points behind 4th place Roma in the race for Champions League football.
