Former U-17 World Cup winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali produced a near-perfect display for relegation battlers Alcorcon as they earned a massive point away at promotion chasers Almeria to officially move out of the drop zone, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having been handed his debut Super Eagles call-up, striker Umar Sadiq led the line for Almeria as he hoped to add to his 14 league goals, whilst Nwakali who was handed his 6th start, was keen to continue his impressive start at the club.
In a half largely dominated by Almeria, the hosts were forced to make an early substitution when Juan Manuel Bravo was stretched off with Richard Boateng taking his place.
The second half was a replica of the first as the hosts continued to press for the winner but Nwakali and his teammates stood firm but the Nigerian made way with nine minutes left for Fidel Escobar.
The substitution of Nwakali almost proved disastrous when the host scored moments later but the VAR came to the rescue as the visitors picked up a vital point which saw them move away from the bottom 4 for the first time since the start of the season.
The impressive Nwakali ended the game with a rating of 7.2, completing 90% of his passes, winning 7 duels, making 4 key tackles, 2 interceptions, and also completing 100% of his dribbles.
