Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze grabbed his 4th assist in this season’s UEFA Europa league to help Villarreal gain a first-leg advantage over Arsenal after a 2-1 win at the Estadio de la Ceramica, AOIFootball.com reports.
In a game that saw two of the top 3 scoring sides go head-to-head, the impressive Chukwueze was hoping to continue his rich form, having scored 3 goals and contributed one assist in his last four games for the Yellow Submarines.
The Nigerian did however continue in that form with just four minutes on the clock and he skipped past Xhaka and Ceballos before setting up Manu Trigueros who fired home from inside the box for 1-0.
The hosts soon doubled their lead at the half-hour mark when former Real Madrid man Raul Albiol was left unmarked at the near spot with the defender slotting home for 2-0.
Things then got ugly for the Gunners in the second period as they were reduced to 10-men just before the half-hour mark after Ceballos was given his second yellow card but Nicolas Pepe’s penalty goal in the 73rd ensured Arsenal picked a vital away goal heading into next week’s return leg at the Emirates.
Chukwueze who was on for the entire match duration, had a game rating of 6.5 as he now hopes to help the club reach their first European final in the club’s history when they face Arsenal next Thursday.
