Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi believes his team’s Super Cup win against his former club Anorthosis Famagusta last week will set the tone for a perfect new season as they bid to defend the league title they won last season, reports.

The 28-year-old versatile player, who featured for the entire match duration as his Omonia Nicosia side ended their 9-year wait for the Super Cup, further posited that his side must now remain focused and consistent in the 2021-2022 campaign.

“A great feeling for me and the team; the coaching staff, and the club management have been building a winning squad and it’s their dream to see us dominate. We were able to complement last season’s success and we are excited to start the season with the Super Cup. It was our first Super Cup in 9 years and this is special. I am honoured to be part of this historic moment at the club.

“We are preparing for the new season and we want to dominate and we have put in a lot of hard work and consistency. We are also hopeful, it will be a great season for the team and our fans,” Abdullahi added.

The former Kano Pillars defender also spoke about fellow countryman and new acquisition Iyayi Believe, stating that he will help the attacker settle in perfectly.

“I am excited to see Iyayi join the team; he will add quality to the team and I will be available to help him settle down,” Abdullahi concluded.

Abdullahi and his teammates will now switch focus to the Champions League qualifying series as they hope to reach the competition proper with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb their first huddle in round 2.
