Former Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Obi has written an emotional farewell to his immediate past club, Chievo Verona, after ending his 3-year stint at the Antonio Bentegodi, reports.

The 30-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2019 from another Italian side Torino for a fee of around £2 million, going on to make well over 80 appearances for the club across both the Serie A and Serie B, scoring 6 goals and adding 3 assists to his name.

The former Inter Milan midfielder, who left the club at the expiration of his contract last month, narrowly missed out on promotion to the Seria A as he helped the club reach the playoffs round but they failed to make it to the Seria A proper.

The midfielder, who is now expected to be unveiled by Seria A newcomers, Salernitana penned an emotional note to this former team, thanking them for an amazing time at the club.

“I would like to find the right words to describe what these two and a half seasons spent at Chievo have represented for me. All the emotions, the moments in which we cried, rejoiced, suffered, and fought, always together, as a true team.

“Perhaps the best way is to just say THANK YOU. This path has made me grow professionally and humanly, so I want to thank all the people who have been part of it: my teammates, the staff, the managers, all those who work for this shirt.

A heartfelt thanks, in particular, goes to you fans, who have always supported me in the happy moments, but above all in the most difficult ones. I think that the beauty of football is also a little bit of this: the ability to say goodbye, but knowing that nothing really ends because that has always been inside you. THANK YOU,” Joel Obi wrote on his Instagram page.

Having finished second in the Seria B, the club earned promotion to the elite division for the first time since the 1998/1999 season, ending a 22-year wait as they now hope the vast experience of the midfielder would help them remain in the league beyond the end of the upcoming season.
