Nottingham Forest F.C., currently facing financial fair play challenges, may risk losing one of its leaders during the summer transfer window. Despite interest from Premier League clubs, Taiwo Awoniyi‘s season has been less than ideal, hampered again by a groin injury that excluded him from the African Nations Cup and slightly decreased his market value.
However, despite these difficulties, Awoniyi continues to score, thanks in large part to the unwavering support of his loving wife, Taiye Jesudun, who has been by his side even before his move to Europe.

Awoniyi met his future wife during their school days. Coming from a large family of a retired police officer, the striker struggled with self-esteem for a long time and did not know how to attract the attention of the girl he liked. He was embarrassed by his modest upbringing and poverty, which sometimes meant he couldn’t afford meals at school.
His secret crush and hunger were essentially what brought them closer: in a playful manner, Taiwo began to take food from Jesudun, waiting for her reaction. However, she never took any action against him or complained about his behavior; her generosity only made the future Nigerian star fall for her even more.

Awoniyi confessed his feelings after completing secondary education and after his first significant football successes. In 2010, he returned from London after participating in a Coca-Cola football competition. His performances in front of an audience gave him more confidence: he sought out Taiye, who was waiting to enroll in university, and revealed his feelings to her.
Initially, the confession didn’t go as planned: Taiwo talked a lot about his football achievements, which didn’t impress the girl much. However, he later reminisced about their school years and Jesudun’s generosity, for which he was especially grateful. These words became the foundation of their friendship, which eventually turned into love.
After eight years of dating and an engagement, on June 15, 2018, the couple held a traditional wedding ceremony in Kaaba. The following day, Taiwo and Taiye were married in a white wedding ceremony at the God’s Grace Foundation Church in the Nigerian city of Ilorin. Two years after the wedding, on October 16, 2020, the family welcomed a son, Emmanuel. Last year, on August 12, 2023, Jesudun gave her husband the most precious and valuable birthday gift – a second child.
Awoniyi and Jesudun are a devout Christian family that loves spending time together, traveling the world, and enjoying its sights. Unlike many of his national team colleagues, the Nigerian often shares photos of his wife and children on social media.

However, Jesudun prefers to keep personal information private. She has a private Instagram account with over 3,000 followers. It is known that Taiye studied at the Kwara State Polytechnic University in Ilorin, Nigeria. And it is also known that throughout the years her husband spent on loan and in search of a permanent club, she remained a loving, understanding, and caring partner.
